Course Objectives

  2. Enhance grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
  3. Prepare students for academic, professional, and standardized testing contexts.

Course Modules

1. Grammar and Language Structure

  • Complex sentence structures (relative clauses, conditional sentences).
  • Modal verbs for speculation, deduction, and advice.
  • Passive voice and causative forms.
  • Advanced verb tenses (past perfect, future perfect).

2. Vocabulary Development

  • Topic-specific vocabulary (e.g., technology, environment, education).
  • Collocations, phrasal verbs, and idiomatic expressions.
  • Academic and workplace-related terminology.

3. Reading Skills

  • Analyzing text structure and identifying main ideas.
  • Understanding complex and abstract arguments.
  • Developing critical reading skills.
  • Practice with a variety of genres: news articles, academic texts, reports.

4. Writing Skills

  • Coherent paragraph and essay writing.
  • Structuring arguments and presenting evidence.
  • Practice with formal and informal writing styles.
  • Writing for specific purposes: letters, reports, and short articles.

5. Listening Skills

  • Understanding different accents and speech patterns.
  • Comprehending lectures, interviews, and discussions.
  • Note-taking and summarization techniques.
  • Focus on inference and identifying speaker attitudes.

6. Speaking Skills

  • Discussing abstract and technical topics.
  • Debating and expressing opinions fluently.
  • Improving pronunciation and intonation.
  • Role-playing real-life situations like interviews or meetings.

Assessment Methods

1. Continuous Assessment (40%)

  • Weekly Quizzes: Grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension tests.
  • Speaking Tasks: Weekly oral presentations and debates.
  • Writing Assignments: Essays, reports, or letters evaluated based on coherence, grammar, and vocabulary.

2. Midterm Assessment (20%)

  • A comprehensive evaluation in Week 12 or Week 16, covering all skills.
  • Components:

o Reading: Analyze a complex passage with multiple-choice and short-answer questions.

o Writing: A 250-word essay and a formal letter or report.

o Listening: Note-taking from a lecture or dialogue.

o Speaking: A 10-minute oral exam including discussion and situational role-play.

4. Mock Tests and Final Exams (30%)

    • Mock Exams: Conducted every 6 weeks to simulate real-world scenarios and assess progress.
      • Focus: Writing tasks, timed reading comprehension, and speaking fluency.
    • Final Exam: Conducted in Week 25 or Week 32.
      • Comprehensive coverage of all language skills.
      • Scoring aligned with CEFR B2 descriptors.
